Code Of Ethics
What is It?
The term REALTOR® is a registered collective membership mark that identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and subscribes to is strict Code of Ethics . Only those agents who are members of NAR can use the term REALTOR®. REALTOR® is not a synonym for real estate agent. Click Here to Find Out More About NAR’s Code of Ethics.
Who Needs To Take It?
The National Association of REALTORS® requires that all members take Code of Ethics once they join a Board. The Code is what sets REALTORS® apart from other real estate professionals. When you take the Code of Ethics class, you are stating that you will follow a strict Code of Ethics promoting professionalism and an ethical real estate practice.
NAMAR requires that all new members take a combined course of Orientation/Code of Ethics within 90 days of joining. NAMAR offers this class for $30 and you receive 3 CE credits.
Every REALTOR is required to complete Cycle 5 Code of Ethics training between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2018 . New members who have joined NAMAR after January 1, 2017 and attended the Orientation/Code of Ethics have already fulfilled this requirement. All other members must complete the training by December 31, 2018 or their membership status will be suspended. If you took Code of Ethics prior to 2017, you will need to take it again before the end of 2018.
If you are transferring from another Board of REALTORS® , please send along with your application, a Letter of Good Standing or a Certificate showing that you have taken the Code of Ethics Course.
